I am one of many Varsity Tutors. I attended Jesuit High School in Carmichael, CA where I graduated with a 4.3 GPA taking multiple AP and honors courses (AP Bio, Chem, Physics B, Gov, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, English Lit, and English Lang). I also participated in several tutoring organizations throughout high school.

I am a UCLA Bioengineer. I am a well qualified tutor and have had many years of experience in both paid and unpaid roles from 6th grade to 12 grade to present. I have always excelled in academics, math, writing, and english and have scored well on all standardized tests and state tests. I have scored 800/800 in SAT 1 math, SAT 2 math. I have scored 760/800 in SAT writing. I received scores of 5/5 in AP Calculus AB and BC and have taken numerous other APs, passing the APs in Physics, Biology, Literature, Language and Composition, Environmental Science, Economics, US history, and Chemistry. I was the President of my high school's only tutoring club and only math club, Infinity Math Club, where I dedicated my time tutoring struggling students in all math levels. I was a tutor in my high school's RAMS program for all academic subjects. I love working with students and love to see them succeed in subjects that they once struggled in.
I am a 2018 graduate of University of California Santa Barbara, with a B.S. degree in Biological Sciences through the Honors Program. I consider education to be tremendously important not just during development, but also throughout life. I believe it's critical to establish the right attitude toward learning; a feat that once accomplished can improve a student's long-term output in school. Education is an integral part of my career choice: I aspire to become a physician, a career intertwined with knowledge and education. However, teaching and learning are present in every career, and every part of life for that matter.
I'm Arian. I graduated from Wesleyan University with degrees in English and Environmental Studies, with a focus on creative writing. For my senior thesis, I wrote a 50-page epic poem that intertwined the geobiological evolution of the earth with my family history.
I'm an undergraduate at UC Berkeley with two years currently under my belt and the intention to double major in anthropology and biology. My focus is on understanding human biological and social origins through analysis of human artifacts, biological remains, and environmental reconstruction, with a parallel interest in preservation strategies. Outside of academics, I'm passionate about all manner of developing sciences and technologies as well as current events and the history behind them.
I am a freshman studying Physics and Mathematics at Occidental College in Pasadena, California. I have been tutoring high school students in mathematics and science for the past 3 years. While my methods in teaching rely on a few fundamental principles, I realize that each student I come into contact with learns in very different ways. I believe I am a good fit for your student not because of my knowledge in specific subjects, but my ability to cater to each student's individual learning strengths - creating a work environment in which your student is not only comfortable, but one in which they thrive.
I am currently a student at Ithaca College pursuing a degree in physics. I am very passionate about math and science especially, and I have found that teaching students is another passion. I have experience tutoring high school students in areas including algebra, algebra 2 and AP Physics 1. I love working with students to help them achieve their goals, and finding exactly what teaching style works best for which students.
I am an undergraduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and I have tutored students since my early high school years. I've had experience instructing and guiding a variety of students, from young middle schoolers taking their first steps into the world of computer programming to my own peers struggling with their calculus exams. Over the past year alone, I've worked with over 30 students, spending several hours each day to help them stay up to speed on their schoolwork. I specialize in many areas of math as well as computer science, biology and physics. When tutoring students, I draw on my own experience with learning the material to identify and address the obstacles they face. I believe that promoting a deeper level of understanding of the subject, as opposed to merely teaching to the test or problem set, will enable students to excel in the long-term.
I'm an MIT undergrad studying Urban Planning. I loved math in science in school, but know that it can be frustrating and easy to dislike when taught in a way that is difficult to understand, or when it seems useless and pointless to learn. My goal is to get students not only to perform well in these subjects, but to fully comprehend and enjoy them.
I am current master's student pursuing an advanced degree in environmental engineering. I have about 3 years of experience tutoring a standard math and science curricula to students ranging in age from 7-17. I attended college at Washington University in St. Louis receiving a degree in mechanical engineering and energy engineering in 2020. During my time there, I worked as a teaching assistant for several different engineering courses, tutoring students outside of class in the calculus and physics related topics. As someone that benefitted greatly from tutors and teaching assistants, I really love being able to help students that are struggling in certain areas. I am able to help with standardized tests, focusing on math and science sections, AP Calculus and AP Physics exams, and high school math.
I am currently working for a tutoring service called Princeton Tutoring as an independent contractor. As a member of their tutoring base, I instruct students in Math, Physics, AP Exams and most often, the SAT. I have obtained outstanding scores and am confident I can convey instruction and techniques that have worked for me. I have a solid foundation in the Spanish language and am completely fluent in German and Russian.
I am a 2023 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a Finance/Economics major and a minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. I am a passionate student in the math and business realms, as I enjoy the intuitiveness of the former and the real-world potential of the latter. During classes in middle and high school, I developed a reputation of being a good source of help within my classes in a non-tutor capacity, and grew that into a peer tutor role a couple times a week during lunch my senior year of high school. What I hope to accomplish with my tutoring is ensure that you not only achieve your desired grade/score, but see how the different concepts relate to each other in the bigger picture. The more important part is to critically think about the subject matter in other, more unfamiliar contexts. Also, in my math subjects, I seek to provide personal secrets in realms including quicker computation strategies, unique acronyms for certain rules, and other intuitive shortcuts.
I am currently conducting breast cancer research as the lab manager in an immunology lab at Columbia University Medical Center. I am extremely comfortable with physics and mathematics (from my studies) as well as biology, chemistry, and biochemistry (through my research experience) and sincerely enjoy tutoring students in those areas. I also enjoy tutoring for standardized tests. While I was studying for the SAT, ACT, and MCAT, all of my preparation was through self-study; as a result, I have a unique approach to preparing for tests that emphasizes knowing the test itself more than the actual material. In addition to tutoring natural sciences and standardized test prep, I tutor Spanish, which I studied for 7 years and spoke for a year while living in Spain. In my spare time, I play guitar, cook for my friends, read, and play with my cat Suki.
I'm currently a PhD student in economics at Yale University. I also have a BS in physics and math from Yale. Other subjects I enjoy are history, geography, and philosophy, and I dabble in photography and baking. I enjoy helping people understand tricky concepts and solve challenging problems, academic and otherwise.
I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.
I'm currently a freshman at Rice University studying applied math. I've always had a love for sharing knowledge with others, and I started tutoring when I was a junior in high school. As a former AP student and a National AP Scholar, I have the experience necessary to guide my students through challenging curriculum. Though I specialize in tutoring mathematics and physics, I am experienced with and am happy to tutor a broad range of subjects.
I'm an Iowa native who moved to Nashville for graduate school. My background is in the life sciences; I have a Masters from Vanderbilt in Chemical and Physical Biology, and my undergraduate degree is in Biochemistry. However, my education has been well rounded and I have interests in philosophy, literature, writing, and history. I have extensive research experience, and I hope to share my passion for science with students. I have experience mentoring undergraduate students during my graduate school education to help them gain research experience. I am a very patient teacher and have the ability to see problems from the students perspective; my tutoring style adapts to each student's individual needs, but centers on getting each student to come to their solutions rather than following any one formula for success. I have a lot of experience with standardized testing, and have taken multiple AP subject tests in addition to the ACT, SAT, and GRE examinations.
I'm Nick! I'm a current undergraduate at MIT and a chemistry major. I specialize in chemistry and all sorts of math, but I also am proficient in French and Physics. I can also help with ACT preparation.
I am a rising sophomore studying civil engineering at Cornell University. I enjoy tutoring math (algebra-calculus 3), high school and college physics, Spanish, and writing. I have experience tutoring throughout high school, where I was the head of a peer-tutoring program. I have continued tutoring in college as well.

Frequently Asked Questions
AP Physics covers mechanics, thermodynamics, waves, electricity and magnetism, and modern physics. Each topic builds on foundational concepts, so gaps early on can make later material harder to grasp. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction helps you identify weak areas, work through problem-solving strategies at your own pace, and build the conceptual understanding needed for both the multiple-choice and free-response sections of the exam.
Score improvement depends on your starting point and consistency with tutoring, but students typically see meaningful gains when they work with a tutor to strengthen problem-solving skills and test-taking strategies. Many students struggle with pacing during the exam and applying concepts to unfamiliar problems—areas where personalized instruction makes a real difference. The key is identifying your specific weak spots early and practicing strategically rather than just reviewing material passively.
Students often struggle with translating word problems into physics equations, managing time during the exam (especially the free-response section), and connecting abstract concepts like electromagnetism to real-world applications. Many also find it difficult to know which formulas apply to a given problem and how to set up multi-step solutions. A tutor can help you develop systematic problem-solving strategies and practice with realistic exam questions to build confidence and speed.
Ideally, tutoring works best when you start in the fall or early winter, giving you time to build a strong foundation and practice with full-length exams before May. However, even starting in spring can help if you focus on high-yield topics and test-taking strategies. Varsity Tutors connects you with expert tutors who can assess where you are in the curriculum and create a targeted study plan based on your timeline and goals.
Practice tests are essential for AP Physics—they help you get comfortable with the exam format, identify timing issues, and pinpoint topics you need to review. Most students benefit from taking full-length practice tests under timed conditions every 2-3 weeks, then reviewing mistakes carefully with a tutor to understand not just what went wrong, but why. This cycle of testing, review, and targeted practice is one of the most effective ways to improve your score and build test-day confidence.
Test anxiety often stems from feeling unprepared or unsure about your problem-solving approach. Working with a tutor gives you the chance to practice problems repeatedly, develop reliable strategies, and see yourself improve over time—all of which build genuine confidence. Tutors can also help you develop a pre-exam routine and teach you how to approach difficult problems strategically rather than panicking when you don't recognize a question immediately.
Free-response questions require you to show your work, explain your reasoning, and often solve multi-step problems—skills that are different from multiple-choice. Tutors can teach you how to organize your solutions clearly, write explanations that earn full credit, and manage your time across the section. Practicing with real AP free-response questions and getting detailed feedback on your work is crucial for improving both your accuracy and your score on this section.
Varsity Tutors connects you with expert tutors who have deep knowledge of AP Physics and experience helping students prepare for the exam. When you get matched with a tutor, you can discuss your current level, goals, and preferred meeting times—then start with a session that fits your schedule and learning style. The personalized approach means your tutor can focus on exactly what you need, whether that's building conceptual understanding or refining test-taking strategies.
