David
- I spent 20 years in elementary and middle school classrooms.
- For 18 of those, I was a founding teacher and Vice Principal at KIPP Academy Houston.
About Me
During that time, I learned a key lesson: great teaching begins with imagining what it's like to be in the student's shoes. When a student is stuck, the problem is more than confusion. It can feel defeating. My approach is to find the moment where the confusion began, go back there together, and help them unpack it. I focus on changing "I don't get this" into "huh, that makes sense." My sessions are rigorous yet also filled with humor. I won two national teaching awards: a two-time recipient of the KIPP Kinder Excellence in Teaching Award, and I was profiled in "American Teacher: Heroes in the Classroom." I am most proud of the fact that the majority of my students went on to become the first in their families to attend college.
