10+ years of tutoring
Jamie
- I was really lucky all the way through college that I really had good teachers at all levels.
About Me
When I got to graduate school, I had my first experience with teachers who weren't very passionate about teaching and it was the first time I struggled with the material. It helped me see how important quality teaching had been to my academic success, and it also helped me see what makes a good teacher, good. This sparked my interest in not just how to teach, but how do students learn? I've been tutoring and teaching ever since and I'm always looking for new ways to reach students and to make the material spark interest. I earned my Bachelor's in Chemistry at Illinois Wesleyan University and went on to a PhD in Organic Chemistry at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. I tutor in most STEM courses including geometry, algebra and pre-calc and chemistry, physics and biology. I tailor my tutoring sessions to the student and focus on a problem-solving approach.
Hobbies & Interests
Outside of academics, I am a big sports fan. My favorite sport is baseball, but I also really like football- especially college. I am pretty active- I like to hike, run, bike as much as possible. My most recent hike was Old Rag in Virginia and I'll be biking 4 days on the Great Allegheny Passage this summer.
