When students miss questions, I explain step-by-step the concept(s) behind the question before explaining the steps to answering the question itself. Even for questions that my students answered correctly, I ask students to explain to me why their chosen answer choices are correct - and often they are unable to do so, which provides the opportunity to expand understanding. At the end of every tutoring session, I do a recap - categorizing the types of mistakes they made and giving suggestions for strengthening those areas of weakness.
