- In college, I started to tutor informally by helping my classmates understand material in biology, biochemistry, and chemistry.
- Later, I was hired as a tutor for the Organic Chemistry I and II courses at my college.
About Me
I am a graduate of Lake Forest College, a liberal arts college in Lake Forest, IL. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology because I really enjoy the intersection of biology and chemistry. I started tutoring at home since I have two younger sisters and they struggled with math and science; I helped them improve their understanding, do better in their classes, and get higher grades! Although I help with a variety of natural science subjects, I love Organic Chemistry, Biology (particularly anything related to genetics), and Biochemistry. I have a lot of fun with my students in trying to help them see how science applies to our daily lives, so they are not just learning material for their exams and then completely forgetting it afterwards. I'm a first-generation college student so I am a firm proponent of education and lifelong learning so I try to help my students become independent learners so that they can continue to improve even when I'm not there. Apart from tutoring, I also work in a scientific lab where we study the effects of traumatic brain injury in fruit flies, which I thoroughly enjoy. In my spare time, I like to sing, play guitar and piano, do sudoku puzzles, play soccer, and watch TV shows/movies. I am also a huge Spider-Man fan, which is why I wanted to become a scientist in the first place, and I am excited to help others do the same!
