Working Together During BLS
In real emergencies, you may not be alone. Teamwork is essential for effective BLS.
Roles in a Team
- Leader: Directs actions and keeps track of time.
- Compressor: Performs chest compressions.
- Ventilator: Provides rescue breaths.
- AED Operator: Prepares and operates the AED.
Effective Communication
Use clear, direct commands:
- Use people's names if possible.
- Confirm instructions ("I'll call 911!" "I'm starting compressions!")
Why Teamwork Matters
Good teamwork improves speed, accuracy, and outcomes for the patient.
Practice Makes Perfect
Training together and practicing communication helps everyone stay calm and effective.
Examples
During a drill, your team assigns roles and works together to help a victim.
