Basic Scientific Inquiry
What is Scientific Inquiry?
Scientific inquiry is a way to ask questions and find answers about the world around us. It’s how scientists discover new things!
Steps of Scientific Inquiry
- Ask a Question: Wonder about something, like “How do plants grow?”
- Make a Guess (Hypothesis): Think about what might happen.
- Do an Experiment: Test your idea. Maybe plant seeds in different places.
- Watch What Happens: Observe and take notes.
- Talk About What You Learned: Share your results with others.
Why is it Important?
This process helps everyone learn new things, solve problems, and make discoveries, big or small!
Try It Yourself
You can be a scientist at home or school by asking questions, trying things out, and noticing what happens!
Examples
Testing if plants grow faster in sunlight than in shade.
Asking why some objects sink and others float in water.
In a Nutshell
Scientific inquiry is how we ask questions and learn about the world.
