Tino
- I recently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BA in philosophy, with special honors from the department.
- Within philosophy, my interests are in logic, the philosophy of math, the philosophy of language, and ethics - each broadly construed.
About Me
Outside of philosophy, I have interests in writing, generally; mathematics; language in general, but the French language in particular; programming computers; and politics and the law, among others. In my final semester, I was permitted to lead three recitations for an introductory philosophical/mathematical logic course. It was this experience that made me aware of two things: 1) I enjoy teaching and 2) For many students, more is learned in a 1-on-1 setting than in a classroom full of one's peers. This is due, I think, to the personalization of the learning process that is not justly possible in a full classroom. It would not be fair for a teacher in such an environment to answer just one student's questions, and tailor future lessons according to the needs of that student! However, in a 1-on-1 setting, the sole concern of the teacher is to help a single student achieve their academic goals. I am not happy unless my student is happy, which fact is the driving force behind the success of my students.
