As a young middle school student, I required a tutor to improve my reading and writing skills; I was a Polish immigrant, and was struggling with English. I can empathize with younger students who are struggling and need someone, as I once did, to make them as enthusiastic about learning as I am now. In my capacity as a private middle school and high school tutor for both math and biology, I have had the opportunity to help other students for a year now. Tutoring students who did not enjoy algebra taught me to appeal to a student's interests in order to find ways to make the material more accessible and relevant. I used to struggle in math. I found the concepts hard to grasp and sometimes beyond my reach. But with hard work and some guidance, I eventually excelled. I can understand why certain concepts are difficult to learn for some students. I've therefore found it very rewarding to put mathematical concepts and principles into words that the student will be able to understand. My ultimate goal when teaching math is to make sure the student understands what I am teaching well enough to be able to solve any problem on his or her own. I am an English major on the pre-med track, which has given me experience in English, math, and science. I have completed all of my pre-med and English requirements with high scores. I have interned for The Florida Review, and have published some of my own work in Independent Ink. I'm also very comfortable working with kids, and helping them better understand concepts that they struggle with. I look forward to helping young students and allowing them to discover their full potential.
