I am more passionate about the latter, and within the humanities I am most passionate about philosophy and English. The most important thing I've learned from those two fields (and the thing I'd most want to pass on to students) is how to find the right words for thoughts - this is important, not ju...

I am a rising Junior computer science major, biochemistry minor at Carleton College. I remember how important asking for help was when I was studying for exams and would love to assist students going through the same process. Although I am knowledgeable in many subjects, I am most equipped tutoring in college and high school-level computer science, college and high school-level biology, and SAT prep. During high school, I tutored my classmates in preparation for the SAT, and have two years of experience tutoring college students in computer science courses. I learn best when I understand the practicality and relevance of the material, and hope to instill those concepts in my lessons.

My first tutoring experience was of small groups of dental and medical first years while I was obtaining my PhD in Physiology at the University of Puerto Rico. Since then I have taught a variety of Science classes (General Biology, Anatomy, Anatomy and Physiology) to larger groups at the college level. As a researcher I have also mentored students (ranging from high school to graduate students) in a laboratory setting where the interactions are one-on-one and structured to each individual. I have learned that these individual interactions are the best to ensure that the student is getting help specifically where (and when) they need it, and for me (the tutor) to identify where the difficulty lies. Also, these individual interactions allow for a more comfortable relationship between mentor and mentee (tutor and student), which in turn allow for a better understanding of the materials. Although I am capable of tutoring different STEM topics, I am a biologist at heart.I am a mother of 3 young kids and understand the hardships of remote learning. My background is multicultural, which makes me fluent in Spanish, English and French.

I am currently in my junior year at Union College. I will graduate with a B.S. in Biology in June of 2016, and plan to go to medical school after. My tutoring experience is quite varied. Back in high school I was the TA for a computer science course and a volunteer tutor in chemistry and biology. More recently, I have done more informal tutoring, such as helping friends at college with biochemistry and MCAT preparation, and helping my younger sister with note taking skills, AP US History, and ACT prep. I tutor a wide range of subjects, from computer science to history and biochemistry to critical reading. My favorite subjects to tutor though, are standardized test prep and biochemistry. Though enjoying standardized tests is not a common opinion, I have always liked the logical nature of standardized test questions, and the fact that simply by working on a few test taking skills students can see marked improvement. Biochemistry, while far from a simple field, is one of my favorite subjects. I find the chemical basis for how biological mechanisms work to be fascinating. Biomedical research is also a passion of mine; I have worked in a handful of labs since high school, from a critical care surgical lab studying treatments for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome to a study on managing diabetes. In my free time, I enjoy reading (especially nonfiction scientific or political books), playing tennis, listening to and playing music (I play piano), and the occasional Netflix marathon. I believe that no matter the subject, every student has the potential for success.

Hi there! I am a graduate of Pepperdine University, with a degree in business administration and minor in applied mathematics. Since graduation, I have worked for U.S. Bank as an anti-money laundering investigator and tutored students both remotely and in person. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about mathematics, with considerable experience tutoring anything from pre-algebra to Calculus 1. I have also tutored for the ACT, covering time management and strategy as well as problem solving. I like to get to know my students, learning what drives them so I can better motivate them to succeed.

I have the Master of Arts degree from Pepperdine University. From my under- graduate college days on, I have taught ages from older elementary through older adults in one-on-one, class room, camp, auditorium and church settings. These presentations have also taken place during hosting a 21-day Israel, Jordan, Egypt and Greek Isles Tour and 7-day tour to Brazil. In addition to Brazil I instructed through a translator for 1 month of college in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and on various occasions in Mexico and the Navajo Reservation in the SW U.S.A.In summary, I have served in leadership roles with various non-profit boards where skills were developed in interpersonal communications. I have conducted well over 50 special event activities in 11 states and 4 foreign countries, with over 2500 participants, as well as consulting on many topics for churches and businesses. With my education, ministerial, college instructing, non-profit and life experiences, I am looking forward to those who would be interested in any of a broad range of subjects, including but not limited to those I am most excited about: History, Social Studies, Ethics, World Religions, Religion, and Theology.Believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, I am a proponent of not only education but of continuing education. Some of my continuing education included: Marriage Preparation and Enrichment certification, Managing Conflict seminars and workshops, special faculty training from University of Phoenix and many other professional, specialty training workshops. I trust this enthusiasm and appreciation will be imparted to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy family time, reading, an active church participation and some sports, all which enriches my life!

I recently graduated from Indiana University (IU) with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Life Sciences with a concentration in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Gender Studies. While I was at IU, I was a teacher's assistant (TA) for Molecular Biology. While this can be a difficult subject, I loved being able to explain the intricacies of it to students during office hours. I was also a member of Alpha Chi Sigma, a professional chemistry fraternity, for three years; we provided free Chemistry tutoring once a week and helped students with test prep. My favorite job I've ever had was as at an IU summer program for freshmen, where I was a TA for a class about feminist and psychoanalytic film analysis of horror movies. I absolutely loved working with my students and introducing them to the new, weird world of horror movie analysis. Currently, I tutor for Biology, History, English, and Social Studies. I'm very excited about this opportunity to be a tutor because I know what it's like to struggle in a class, and I wish I would have reached out to a tutor myself. It's so important for students to have the resources they need to succeed in and even enjoy their education. My hope is that through tutoring, I can show students another way of looking at the subject. In my spare time, I've been devouring audiobooks and podcasts about history, race, gender, and colonialism while I play Pokemon on my Switch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students across Tucson's 427 schools and all 67 school districts with personalized tutoring. Whether your student attends a school in the Tucson Unified School District, Sunnyside, Sahuarita, or any other local district, we can match them with a tutor who understands Arizona's academic standards and local curriculum expectations.
Tucson's average student-teacher ratio of 15.2:1 means individual students often don't get the focused attention they need in the classroom. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction fills that gap by providing dedicated support tailored to your student's specific learning style, pace, and goals—something that's difficult to achieve in a traditional classroom setting.
Tucson students commonly seek tutoring in math, English, science, and test preparation (SAT, ACT, and AP exams). We also work with students on Arizona-specific requirements like passing the AIMS exam and meeting state standards. Whatever subject your student is struggling with or wants to excel in, Varsity Tutors can connect you with an expert tutor.
Tutors who work with Tucson students are familiar with Arizona's K-12 standards and graduation requirements, including proficiency expectations in English language arts, math, science, and social studies. They can help students close specific skill gaps, prepare for state assessments, and build confidence in areas where they're falling behind—ensuring they're on track to meet Arizona's benchmarks.
The first session is focused on getting to know your student—their learning style, current challenges, and goals. The tutor will assess where they stand academically, identify specific areas that need support, and create a personalized plan moving forward. This foundation helps ensure that every future session is targeted and effective.
Tutoring rates vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and your student's grade level. We offer flexible options to fit different budgets, and many families find that the focused, personalized instruction delivers strong results that justify the investment. Contact us for a consultation to discuss pricing and find a tutoring plan that works for your family.
Many students show noticeable improvement within 4-6 weeks of consistent tutoring, though the timeline depends on their starting point and how frequently they work with their tutor. Building strong academic skills is a process, and the most sustainable results come from regular, focused practice. Your tutor will track progress and adjust strategies to keep your student moving forward.
Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who have strong subject expertise and experience teaching or tutoring their area. Many hold degrees in their subject, have classroom teaching experience, or bring specialized knowledge—like test prep certification or advanced subject mastery. When we match your student with a tutor, we ensure they're well-qualified to help your student succeed.
