Using Symbols in Math
Algebra is like a math puzzle where letters stand for numbers we don't know yet. These letters are called variables.
- Simple Equations:
- \( x + 3 = 7 \) means “what number plus 3 equals 7?”
- Solve by finding the value of \( x \).
Why Use Algebra?
Algebra helps us solve problems with unknowns and find patterns, making it easier to describe rules and relationships.
Everyday Uses
Algebra is handy for figuring out how much money you'll have after spending, or how far you'll travel in a certain time.
Examples
Figuring out how many apples you had if you bought 3 more and now have 7.
Finding out how long it will take to save up for a new bike with weekly allowance.
In a Nutshell
Algebra uses symbols to solve puzzles and find unknown numbers.
