Mastering Context Clues
Context clues are hints in a sentence or paragraph that help you figure out the meaning of unfamiliar words. If you don’t know a word, look at the words around it—the context—to make a smart guess!
Types of Context Clues
- Definition Clues: The meaning is explained right there!
- Synonym Clues: A similar word is used nearby.
- Antonym Clues: The opposite meaning is shown.
- Example Clues: Examples help you guess the meaning.
How to Use Context Clues
- Read the whole sentence.
