Study Strategies
Checking Your Work
Always Double-Check
After you solve a multiplication or division problem, use the opposite operation to check your answer. Multiply to check division and divide to check multiplication.
- If you divided, multiply your answer by the divisor. If you multiplied, divide the product by one of the factors.
- Ask yourself: Does my answer make sense? Did I answer the question?
This helps you catch mistakes and become more confident in your math skills!
Examples
You solve \(15 \div 3 = 5\). Check by doing \(5 \times 3 = 15\).
You solve \(6 \times 4 = 24\). Check by doing \(24 \div 6 = 4\).
