What is your teaching philosophy?

Teach children according to how they learn. Everyone learns in a different way.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Introduce myself. Try to determine the student's strengths and weaknesses.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Assist the student in the beginning, but allow them to take the lead when they feel comfortable.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Positive talk and encouragement.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would allow the student to explain it to me in the way that they understand. That way I can see what step or process they are missing.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would make sure that the student familiarizes themselves with any unfamiliar words. Break up the paragraphs and summarize.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

PICTURES! A lot of students are visual learners, especially when it comes to math.
