I am excited about the opportunity to help someone improve upon or master a skill. I am passionate and very interested in human psychology and am about to obtain a Master's Degree in the field. I also love to travel, meet new people, and learn new things. I spend 2015 abroad, traveling 10 countries in 10 months in South and Central America and loved the experience of meeting new people and learning new cultures.
My field of study and my traveling have taught me that it's possible to master anything with the right approach, be it a new skill or new knowledge. I think that every individual has their own approach to learning and improving and the key is to find the right approach for each individual. I have worked with multiple individuals for over the past 10 years and helped edit their essays and improve their writing style, gently guiding them to a better approach in writing and phrasing. I am also looking forward to helping someone in the field of psychology, something that I am passionate about. Finally, as a native Russian speaker, I would love to help anyone who is learning this challenging language. I am easy-going and friendly and am looking forward to working with new students!

What is your teaching philosophy?
I like to work at the student's pace and present information to them in a way that works best for them, either visually, verbally, or in writing. I believe anyone can excel if information is presented to them in a way that is optimal for them.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would like to get to know the student, understand what their weaknesses and strengths are, and what they would like to improve on. Also, I want to make sure that I build a good working relationship with the student and that they feel comfortable with me
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I think it's important to teach independent learning skills and techniques so that students know where to turn to and how to approach a problem.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help a student stay motivated by making the subject interesting to them, by connecting it to their everyday life and experience, and by staying positive and helping them focus on the bigger picture.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
There is always an approach that works for each individual - all is needed is time, patience, and creativity to find that approach and use it. I would try to find an approach that works best for each individual student to make sure that they are learning at their optimal level.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would re-read the subjects with them multiple times, break it down into smaller sections/topics, and review each section to make sure that the student understands it completely before moving on.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would make it relevant to their daily life, and share some interesting and little known facts about the subject matter to show them that it is not dull.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would adjust the technique I use to each student - for example, some students learn better visually, some learn better by hearing the material, and others learn when they write down the information and organize it in a way that makes the most sense to them. I believe that it's important to adjust the teaching method to each student instead of relying on a one-size fits all approach.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
It is important to use positive reinforcement, and to celebrate small victories and moments of understanding.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I would evaluate the student's needs by talking to them, their parent/guardian, and also by paying close attention to them during our sessions to have a better insight.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I adapt my tutoring strategies and approach based on how the student responds to me and the information presented.
