As a bilingual teacher for students with disabilities, I believe that I can make a great impact on their lives by using techniques that can only achieve confidence and create hope in them in order to learn new skills. It is important that students trust and know that educators care about them and can connect with students by learning about their customs and culture. This will allow students to become more comfortable with learning a new language and not give up when mistakes are made.
Most of the students that come to my class have multiple disabilities and they do not speak or understand the English language. At times this affects their behavior because they refuse to learn the language either because they are embarrassed for making mistakes or they do not understand the importance of the learning the language for their professional life. As an educator, my responsibility is to connect with them and show them that it is okay to make mistakes because that is how they will learn and achieve success. Teachers need to always improve their teaching techniques and be open to learn from students because what might be work for one student may not work for the other student. It would be an honor to become part of Varsity Tutors.
