My background is diverse both academically and geographically. I was born and raised in Athens, Greece where I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Accounting & Finance from Athens University of Economics & Business (2004). My passion for learning and experiencing new cultures led me to New York City where I graduated with a Masters in Business Administration (MBA in Marketing) from Pace University (2008).
Currently, I work for ABC Languages, a language school in Manhattan, teaching Greek to children and adults in private and group settings. I also work for Penguin Random as an online Greek teacher and a translator. Last but not least, for the past nine months I am with Kidz Choice Services, Inc as an ABA therapist in bilingual environments (English and Greek) where I successfully completed my Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Certification. I also observed several hours of clinical trials both in private and school settings. In addition, I participated in several seminars such as, "Seminar on Discrete Trial Training (DTT)" and "Seminar on self-injurious behavior & self-stimulatory behavior", followed by three practical hours respectively. At the same time, I am pursuing a Masters in Early Childhood Education & Special Education at Touro College.
My path so far has given me the opportunity to develop a wide variety of skills -classroom experience in diverse environmental and geographical settings, excellent critical and analytical thinking, problem solving and research, and organizational and communications skills- which makes me an ideal tutor.

What is your teaching philosophy?
"As long as I live, I learn," said Solon even though all humanity believes it was Socrates! Knowledge never stops, I say; it just comes in different forms and from different places.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Try to make an assessment of the student 's strong points and weaknesses, but also identify what the student likes. Only through love for learning comes the true education.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By making him/her love what they are studying and making them see the value of it in real life applications. However, it is necessary to initiate reward work and allow some room for wrong answers before the correct one.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By connecting the class to real life with hands-on practice (where possible) and rewarding the student.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I try to put the student in my shoes. If the teacher plays the student and the student the teacher, you are giving him/her the opportunity to speak and think even more on how to explain a concept. By that, you identify the weak points he/she has.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
One of the most successful techniques is to visualize the text. Try to make a graph, a table, or even a drawing to help them put all the pieces in the right order.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
All those that empower the student and give him/her room to evolve and develop according to his/hers personal will and capabilities.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Try to create a game out of it and/or use it as reinforcement for getting what he/she likes.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Engage in dialogue and/or written questions altered from what was recently taught to make sure the student deeply understands the material.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Refer to subjects or assign projects you know the student will shine in and always be there to assist, provide guidance, and encourage good work even if proven wrong.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Demonstration of the material by the student, small quizzes, or simple oral questions based on what was taught merged with new concepts.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
It's all about adapting for both the teacher and the student. A teacher needs to evaluate the student's needs, strong areas, and weaknesses and act accordingly.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Apart from the textbook and workbook, depending on the class, anything that has to do with giving a more overall and hands-on experience of the subject taught.
