Writing Tutoring review by Mehek Farah in San Ramon, CA
Today, I worked on creative writing with the student. I helped her brainstorm a prompt and guided her through the organization process of the essay. She did much better with my help and I will continue to work on her with this. We also worked on grammar practice, specifically subject verb agreement. She is making great progress, and I anticipate that she will continue to improve throughout the Summer. I have no concerns.

Worked on developing short stories--flash fiction and fables. Both boys practiced writing their own fable/parable. They have two due next time we meet, as well as a short essay on their chosen novel.

Writing Tutoring review by Shannon in San Ramon, CA
Yesterday we covered the hard-copy portion of her final exam on the play "A Raisin in the Sun." We had to answer three questions: What is the character's significance in the play? How does he/she transgress borders literally and metaphorically? Compare this character with another character from a different play the class has studied, and which of these characters is more successful at transgressing borders? Together we did the outline and first paragraph and I left her with writing the remainder of the essay.

Writing Tutoring review by Omar in San Ramon, CA
Today, the student and I split our times doing three things. The first thing we did was go over all vocabulary note cards he has created over the past few months. We did several drilling exercises. He struggled to remember a lot of words at first, but by the end of the exercises he had recovered a lot of his former knowledge of the vocabulary in question. During the second part of our session, we read two poems by Edna St. Vincent Millay, in order to improve his reading comprehension skills. During the third part of the session, we reviewed two of the essays he has written in preparation for the ISEE exam in January. I made certain suggestions, but overall his writing skills have greatly improved. The next step is getting him to contract all of the skills he has learned down to the time he will be allotted for the exam.
