One of the defining moments of my career was when I decided that against all odds -- I would take Calculus. From a young age I like many other students was not proficient in mathematics, but decided to take time and careful dedication to apply myself. It was that moment that pushed me forward, and when I think about how I am the first in my family to have ever gotten a college degree, I remember that all it takes to succeed is one well lit spark.
As a current high-school teacher of two years with a degree in Mathematics from the University of Arizona, I have developed my educational strategies to combine with my deep content knowledge so that I can try to find that spark in student's pursuit of mathematics. I have years of experience tutoring one on one, and plenty of hours off-the-clock keeping myself privy to special topics in mathematics. I tutor a range of subjects from simple elementary and middle school arithmetic all the way up to proof based courses like Real Analysis, and believe that I have the most impact with students who show special interest in math outside of just a desire to get a good grade -- but rather to know more for the sake of it. I like to take a hands-on approach with tutoring, covering content and concepts with students in a new way while also making sure to hammer home the content currently being covered in their classes. I have a wealth of experience with Title I students, while also having experience with gifted students at private schools. I enjoy tying in mathematical education to my current content interests, like cooking -- the sciences -- statistics -- and logical arguments.
Overall, as an educator and tutor alike I am the one who is qualified to and excited to help your student find that same spark which pushed me toward my accomplishments.
