I am a professor at Florida Atlantic University in the College of Education. I received my PhD in Teaching and Learning with a focus on Language and Literacy Development. My academic background is also connected to TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages) and bilingual education. I am originally from South Africa, my family is Italian, and because of my life experiences, I am multilingual in Italian, French, and English, with communicative skills in Spanish and Arabic. I have 15 years of experience teaching and tutoring students from a wide range of ages (elementary, middle school, and university-level). Specifically, I have tutored middle school students in reading; adults in academic and business English; and university students in academic writing, university application preparation, and scientific journal writing. My areas of research are related to studying the practices that support students' language and literacy learning across the content areas (math, science, social studies, language arts). In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends, taking care of my dog, Leo, trying out new cooking recipes, and exercising.
