Having been a professional software programmer for over 12 years now, I am very passionate about math and technology. After becoming a mother of two, my love for teaching children and learning more myself in the process, has grown. My teaching career started in India when my children's classmates approached me requiring help with math. What started off as help with math ended up becoming help with computer applications, chemistry, physics, and SAT math.
For me, teaching is more than just a job. During my break years from my software job, I volunteered to teach in government run schools for underprivileged children in India. To me, the satisfaction of students learning something new and gaining the confidence to solve problems is extremely rewarding.
My favorite subject is Math (specifically Algebra, Geometry, Arithmetic and Trigonometry). As a student during my middle school, I found Math quite difficult as I could not see the purpose of solving those problems and avoided studying that subject. But when I went to high school, I had this great teacher who taught the subject by giving relevant, day-to-day examples and made it very interesting. I want to be able to do that - make learning relevant and interesting.
I did my under-graduation in Electronics and Communication Engineering from MCE, India. My desire to learn more in this field drove me to do my graduation from Brandeis University, MA.
Undergraduate Degree: Malnad College of Engineering - Bachelor of Engineering, Electronics Technology
Graduate Degree: Brandeis University - Master of Science, Computer Software Engineering
Playing and teaching music (Indian classical mostly) on Veena (a string instrument), bicycling and carpentry are some of my other interests.
