My name is Cole and my background is in linguistics, literacy teaching, ESL, and Spanish language teaching. I hold an Orton-Gillingham certification for teaching reading and writing from the Institute of Multi-Sensory Education and am currently pursuing a master's of education in children's literature and literacies.
I stand firmly by the power of Orton-Gillingham (OG) to transform a reader's literacy skills. OG is a step-by-step, systematic approach to teaching literacy concepts that build upon one another using multi-sensory techniques (sight, hearing, speaking, touch, crossing the midline, etc.). It is so straightforward and fun, students not only enjoy the process but gain confidence as they recognize their own progress. The program focuses on phonics, sentence structure, handwriting (cursive or print), and the spelling of both phonetic and non-phonetic words, which engages the whole body.
My language-teaching experience has been in person, online, one-on-one and in classrooms of up to 30 students. I design my one-on-one lessons based on each student's goals, language ability, and interests. My goal is for it to be enjoyable and for my students to be able to use the target language.
Much as I enjoy tutoring in person, I am only available online at this time.
I would be happy to answer any questions or discuss your tutoring interests. In addition to English, I speak Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian, and would be able to teach using those languages, if necessary.
