As a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, serving others has motivated me throughout my career path. I view tutoring as a natural extension of the educational roles I have enjoyed as an Air Force officer and my desire to help others. After receiving my Bachelor of Science in Economics in 2013, I had the opportunity to work in a space operations unit where I provided information and training to satellite and space systems officers. In my following assignment, I worked as an Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies preparing college students with the leadership skills necessary for their future careers as Air Force officers. I believe all teaching should inspire the joy found in learning something new and aim to help the student develop their critical thinking skills. For this reason, my tutoring style relies on individualized engagement and questioning methods (i.e. Socratic method). I have seen this method completely change disengaged students into active participants in the learning process through my experiences as a volunteer tutor in an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) classroom. I have found this method also works best when I am able to build a relationship with the student. For this reason, I prefer to tutor students on a regular schedule and/or in-person when geographically possible. While I am interested in helping students meet their goals in any subject, I love using my background to show them science can be creative, fun, and is a part of everyday life! Outside of teaching, I enjoy road trips, reading, and outdoor recreation. I left active duty service in 2018 to pursue traveling and entrepreneurship full-time (I own a small, independent bookstore with my husband), although I remain an officer in the Air Force Reserves.
