I am currently working as a SAT/GRE/Math/programming tutor at Montclair Tutor, and also as a freelance web designer. I possess a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from Dickinson College with a Masters degree in Technology and Society from Georgetown University. I began tutoring in high school by teaching math to high school friends outside of class, where I helped those who were struggling with high school math, including Algebra, Geometry and Precalculus, by walking them through problems and helping them understand how to draw effective diagrams. I continued this work at a TA in my college Computer Science department in college, where I supervised college students in introductory CS courses in the computer lab during evening hours. These students were just beginning to learn the concepts of variables, loops, if-statements and objects, so I would explain these concepts to them and help them ensure they wrote their programming syntax correctly. I was informally recognized as the most clear and helpful among TAs in my cohort.
In my Masters program in technology studies, I served as a TA for a course called Computational Expression, where students were learning programming specifically in the context of creating visual output. As the TA, I created visual scenarios for the students to implement as homework, and would often help them with additional programming concepts and syntax issues in their code. Currently, at Montclair tutoring, I mostly work with high school students preparing for the SAT, but I also have also worked with older students studying for the GRE or GED. In this capacity, I teach math ranging from pre-algebra through pre-calculus. I will walk students through problems ranging from probability and combinations to sets of linear equations, and also provide them with helpful strategies to ensure they get the right answers on test day.
