Hi! My name is Shakir Stephen. I am currently the NYU Religious Studies Department Fellow -- researching religion in the US as a part of their Master's Program. I have spent the last 4 years working as a Writing Tutor for the University of Vermont and have enjoyed working with hundreds of college students to help them hone in on their writing skills while also developing my own skills as a writer and as a tutor.
While I was a writing tutor for UVM, I also worked as a full-time Academic Coach for a residential college program in Vermont for college students with learning challenges including but not limited to: Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD/ADD and Dyslexia. This position further developed my skills working with diverse learners, and also allowed me to continue tutoring other subjects I have tutored in the past. While at UVM I was a college tutor for Pre-Calc, Calculus I, II and III, Algebra, Physics, Chemistry, Philosophy and Music Theory.
I acquired my Bachelor of Arts degree in 2015 from UVM and majored in Religion with minors in Pure Mathematics and Philosophy. During my time there I worked as a substitute teacher and paraeducator for the Burlington School District, allowing me to work with students from ages K-12. This helped me develop skills working with students of all ages in a variety of subjects.
When not working on academic pursuits I enjoy reading, writing, listening to and playing music, as well as playing basketball and cooking.
Tutoring has been something I have done for my entire adult life and I am excited to continue working with new students to help them move closer to where they would like to be!
