I graduated from the University of St. Thomas with degrees in Secondary Education and Mathematics, with a minor in Statistics. In college, I was a lead tutor at the on-campus math center and tutored high school students in all areas of math and ACT prep. Everyone of my ACT students increased their overall score by at least 3 points. Currently I am a high school math teacher in the Milwaukee area. I have taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Statistics, and Trigonometry and have tutored students ranging from Algebra 1 to Calculus.
I believe that in order for a student to be willing to learn, they have to respect the teacher, but I also believe that in order to receive respect, one also has to give respect. Therefore, I hope to build some sort of relationship with every student that I teach in order to gain their respect and in turn, they will be an engaged learner. While tutoring, I hope to identify the student's strengths and weaknesses in order to better understand where they might be struggling. I also want to know about the student's interests outside of school to allow us to relate their interests to the material we are working on. This will allow a connection for us to better develop content specific and general skills and strategies. By doing this, students will hopefully begin to realize that they can do things in math that they previously thought were unattainable. In turn, this will build confidence in the students, not only in math, but in their everyday lives.
