I'm a graduate from the college of education at Western Michigan University and worked for six years as an English teacher in public and private high schools and middle schools. I was a graduate teaching assistant at Illinois State University (as I earned an MA in Theatre Studies) and at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (while earning an MFA in Theatre Directing). Last year I taught at East Carolina University.
My tutoring experience includes writing, test prep, learning to read, improving reading comprehension and fluency skills, and ESL. I love meeting new people and finding creative ways to help them learn. A tutoring session with me is student centered, motivating them to have agency over their learning. I ask a lot of questions to guide a student's thinking.
I enjoy tutoring writing because the complex process gives me a window into how the student thinks. As much as I love tutoring writing, I have to say reading is my favorite subject! I'm an avid reader, and I want others to have that enjoyment in their lives as well.
I am a professional theatre director. I love drama on the stage as well as in sports, especially baseball and hockey! My border collie mix keeps me active, and I go to CrossFit.
