I am passionate about teaching and learning and look forward to using my knowledge to assist you. I am a Phd Student in the Indigenous Studies Program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I have a MS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Sociology and a BA from the University of Redlands in Race and Ethnic studies.
As a teacher and tutor I strive for my students to have hands on learning. I want the student to be engaged through the entire process whether it be math or writing. By being engaged it helps build confidence and knowledge in the subject area. I enjoy working with students in math, reading comprehension, writing, or test prep and helping them grow through learning.
I have extensive experience in reading and writing. I taught writing at the undergraduate level and worked with students on papers ranging from 1 to 12 pages. I held individual conferences with students twice a semester and worked with them from their thesis statements, to outlines, to final papers. I have written papers up to 80 pages in length so am able to work on any writing assignment. I also tutored math and Arabic when I was an undergraduate. I am comfortable in algebra and geometry. I am happy to work with you in studying for exams such as the ACT, PSAT, SAT, and GRE as well (I have taken them all).
Outside of academics I am interested in getting outdoors, hiking, snowboarding, and doing sports like soccer. I also enjoy reading and beading for indoor activities. I love to cook and bake too.
