Teaching involves the ability to reach students where they are, and to prepare them to further their progress. It involves being able to connect with a diverse group of individuals who may be at different levels of understanding and ability. It involves being personable and understanding, yet challenging. I enjoy teaching in a way that is understandable to each student, that highlights what is important, and that helps students understand the application of academics to the world we live in. I desire to inspire and prepare students to be compassionate contributors to their professions, to society, and the people they encounter.
The expression, "Some teach and others do" is often quoted and is worthy of note. Teaching involves understanding and honoring students as people who have much to offer, and encouraging them to be the best that they can be. Teaching certainly involves challenging students to work hard, encouraging them reach their goals, and helping them understand how they can reach them. It also involves being reasonable in what can be attained within a given timeframe. It is remembering that learning is a lifetime endeavor, and it seeks to inspire in students a desire for lifelong learning.
I very much look forward to the opportunity to assist students through Varsity Tutors.
