As a tutor, my goal is to adapt my tutoring style to best meet the needs of the individual child and to link the learning of new concepts to existing knowledge. There is also much emphasis on making the concepts learned in tutoring relevant to the "real world" outside of school.
In math lessons, after fundamental concepts are understood, deeper level thinking will be obtained via the study of word problems. The word problems will emphasis ways to organize thinking, including visual thinking by drawing pictures and then applying the math.
And of course learning will always be fun and yet rigorous!
I have experience tutoring elementary students, specifically 4th grade mathematics and 5th grade literacy, with Denver Public Schools although I am comfortable tutoring students of any age.
I look forward to working with you.
