A great tutor first of all must be able to relate and communicate well with their students. Especially when working with teens, establishing a good rapport and relating to them is key if you are going to be successful helping them with their schoolwork.

I enjoy working with teens and adults and I have15+ years of teaching experience.
Individual in-person tutoring it's my favorite, but I have several years experience using the online platform and Skype.

It is important to assess and teach a student according to their learning style. Some students are very hands on and need instruction that helps them visualize the problem. I am also open to a student working a problem using any method, as long as they can show me how they get the answer.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe education is a lifelong process. If you can help a student gain the confidence and give them the right tools, they will be able to continue their own journey of learning for their lifetime.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Usually the first time I meet with a student I spend some time learning a little about them personally and sharing my background as well. Then, we discuss the subject matter and I ask lots of questions to determine what the student's goals are. If time permits, I will give the student an assessment if necessary to determine what their areas of strength and weakness in the subject matter. Sometimes the assessment is given as an assignment after the first session. Together the student and I develop a plan of action. If the student is under 18, I always include the parents in this discussion before or afterwards to make sure they have communicated their concerns as well.
