I was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, moved to the valley in June of 2005 from Crystal Lake, Illinois just NW of downtown Chicago. Dating back to 1978 I have been a part-time Instructor/Professor at Junior Colleges, Universities and Graduate Schools.
I received my AAS Degree in Information Technology from Moraine Valley Community College, Bachelors of Science Degree at Trinity Christian College in Business; with a minor in IT and achieved my MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management in 1985.
My work experience includes management and consulting positions in distribution, manufacturing, financial, engineering, petro-chemical, pharmaceutical and business continuity industries in Chicago, regionally across the US, and globally.
I held positions as a Data Center Manager in the food service distribution business, Project Manager in commercial engineering and construction industries, IT Director in the automotive manufacturing industry, and VP of Information systems in the financial industry, all were in the Chicago metro area. Most recently my focus has been on assisting clients across the US and globally in the areas of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery.
While in the financial field, I served 4 years on the operations council for the ATM provider Cash Station providing guidance to the Chicago banking community on ATM deployment, management, and policies. In the automotive manufacturing field, lead various Y2K initiatives to ensure the IT systems were operational on 1/1/2000, was the global IT lead for SOX compliance and have managed the IT portion of company mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. For the past 11 years I have been President and Board member of a mid-west disaster recovery user group, recently completing my CBCP certification in Business Continuity from DRII. Now as a consultant for a Fortune 500 companies Business Continuity Recovery Services division my focus is on helping clients worldwide mitigate risks to their business, develop recovery strategies, and test those strategies in a simulated environment.
I think my varied professional experience has qualified me to teach a variety courses including, but not limited to Risk Mitigation and Contingency Planning, Essentials of Telecommunications, Managerial Applications of Information Technology, Networking Concepts and Applications, Managing Organizational Change, Systems Analysis Planning and Control, Principals of Information Systems Security, Principals of Management, Project Management, Database Essentials for Decision Making, Operations Management, Business Operations, IS Capstone, and Principals of Information Security and Privacy. I really enjoy the diversity of teaching different types of courses.
In my free time I'm an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing (especially in Northern Saskatchewan and Gulf waters of S. Florida), volunteering with the Y-Guides and I've been known to play an occasional round of golf.
My wife of 21 years and two boys, 21 & 17, live in the far east Valley in Arizona with 2 dogs; a yellow Lab mix named Carly and Shitzu named Sammie and a black cat appropriately named Shadow!
I believe teaching is a two-way-street; students get to learn from my 38+ years of experience and I get to learn from yours!
