I remember being a high school senior and not knowing what was special about English, sitting there wondering why we needed to be studying the writings of these "old, dead guys." Then I had an English teacher who made an impact on me as a student, and I had a breakthrough with the subject. He made the writings we were studying more than just stories from a bygone era. He made them applicable to today's world, my life, and the trials and tribulations we all share as a global human family.
Had it not been for this special teacher, my life would be a very different one, so I recognize the importance education, and specifically English as a subject, can have on an individual. I hope to help my students appreciate how this wonderful field can help them navigate the complications of life by studying the wisdom of those who came before, and to assist them in writing their own contributions and thoughts.
Through my years of experience teaching in the classroom, I know how to help struggling students, and realize when compassion is the necessary tool. As a tutor, I look forward to the one-on-one environment where I can learn about and assess each individual, and I'm excited about the possibility of tailoring a custom-made learning plan to each tutee. The academic and personal success of each of my charges is my top priority, compelling them to come away with an abiding love for learning and studying the beauty and power of language and literature.
