I received my Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics with a minor in Renewable Energy from the University of Toledo. I am currently a Physics tutor and instructor of a physics/chemistry class at the local community college. My favorite subject to tutor is physics, but I also help with a lot of first level chemistry. I often find myself helping students improve their algebra skills during sessions and I think there is no better way to appreciate and get a handle on algebra than by solving physics and chemistry problems.
I believe that the best way to learn is to master the fundamentals. If one takes the time and effort to work through problems in the beginning, the usefulness of mathematics reveals itself, and problem solving skills develop on their own. In my tutoring experiences, I've found that students are most often stressed because of small issues with equations and/or concepts. However, once we take a few minutes to review and the student gets comfortable with rearranging equations, and why one would do so, students have a new attitude about approaching a problem. Seeing a student proud of solving a problem is something I truly enjoy! I am also a huge NBA fan, and love to work on home remodeling projects.
