What's the price of studying with a private tutor in Cleveland?

The price of studying with a tutor in Cleveland depends on a variety of variables, including how often you or your student intend to meet your instructor, what you need to cover, your location, etc. For example, tutoring for a student covering exponents at a local school like Shaker Heights High School may carry a different price tag than tutoring for an undergraduate learning how to create statistical models.

Likewise, a student who sticks to a weekly study plan with their academic coach may pay a different rate per session than one who meets more sporadically.

The size of your study group can also affect what you pay. Some students automatically assume a private learning environment and individualized attention when they think of the word "tutoring", but many instructors also offer group sessions that allow classmates to study together. Both options have their benefits, so you can't go wrong choosing between them. Varsity Tutors also provides small group classes as a cost-effective supplement to any form of tutoring.

Studying with a private teacher in Cleveland can be a great investment for students of all ability levels. If your child isn't reading as well as their peers, a tutor can provide support before they lose confidence in themselves. If you earn good grades already, a tutor can provide more detailed information and introduce fresh concepts more rapidly to keep you engaged in the learning process. Please speak with one of our friendly Educational Directors to learn more about how a tutor could help you and what it might cost.

Homeschooling can be challenging to juggle with all of your other responsibilities, but it can be done.

Are the tutors in Cleveland assessed for their qualifications?

While there is no formal certification process for tutors in the general population, very few candidates make it through our extensive screening process. We verify that every candidate combines academic expertise and proven teaching skills before referring them to students like you, so you can trust that you will work with a tutor in Cleveland who knows what they are talking about.

We'll also find you somebody who can meet with you on your terms, so don't have to worry about anything on the scheduling front.

We also search for instructors who possess the intangibles that separate good tutors from great ones. For example, we look for instructors who are knowledgeable in multiple teaching techniques, allowing them to teach to their pupil's preferred learning style, whatever it happens to be. Likewise, we look for tutors who can establish an environment where questions are encouraged to expedite the learning process.

The Cleveland School System

Cleveland, Ohio, is the second largest city in Ohio, with a population of about 388,000, while the larger metropolitan area is home to approximately 2 million people. Nearly 56,000 students in the city attend schools in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, which is the largest in the state. Cleveland has the only school district in Ohio that is under the control of the mayor. The mayor appoints the entire school board for the district.

With such a large student population, it is easy to imagine that many students are not receiving the type of attention they need to thrive in school. Varsity Tutors helps parents connect with highly qualified Cleveland tutors who can offer additional academic support. Here's some data on how Cleveland's best schools are performing on state assessments.

Cleveland Test Scores

Students throughout the country know they will need to begin preparing for either the SAT or the ACT as soon as they enter high school. Students in Cleveland also take Ohio's standardized exams, including tests that measure skills in language arts, mathematics, and science in grades 3-8. High school students take End-of-Course for specific subject areas including algebra, biology, government, history, and language arts.

If your child is preparing for an upcoming standardized exam, time with a personal tutor could prove invaluable. Not only can tutors help students with their mastery of subject area concepts, but they can also work with your child on their test-taking skills such as time management and organization.

It is essential that parents be aware of how well their child’s schools rank. While this isn’t an accurate indicator of an individual child’s potential, it does give parents a better understanding of the environment in which their child is learning. You can see where the top-ranked schools in Cleveland compare to other schools in the state in the chart below.

Personalized instruction is a crucial indicator of academic success. No matter what school your child attends, he or she will have to share the attention of their instructor with more than a dozen other students. When you give your child time with a personal tutor, your child has the undivided attention of the instructor for the duration of the session. This one on one support gives the tutor a greater ability to make a personal connection with your child and provide a learning environment explicitly designed for their learning needs.

Classroom size is an essential consideration in the overall efficacy of a school. Session Summaries by Tutors

Tutoring review by Courtney in Cleveland, OH
The student was very excited about this week's reading comprehension activity. She is also doing very, very well with her word list for this week, and is starting to recognize when two letters "work as a team" to make a new sound, like the "ai" in "said".

Tutoring review by Lorna in Cleveland, OH
Today  we reviewed the first 2/3.   The student seemed to have retained a good amount of it, and had a general idea of the answer for the majority of the questions, which was really promising. I am finishing up the study guide from the notes from the DRC, and then Monday,  Tuesday, and Wednesday we will be reviewing and studying spelling for any unusual words that could be on the test.

We covered a LOT of calculus this session, The student had a ton of Calculus work and no work for Computer Science.  Topics covered included a lot of problem solving with integration including area estimation, area computation, velocity and acceleration problems, distance and displacement problems, u substitution, computations for integration constants with boundary equations, and trigonometric integration problems. He was able to do the problems before I left.

Tutoring review by Wesley in Cleveland, OH
The student only had a worksheet for Algebra 2, but it covered graphing and understanding the equations of circles, parabolas, hyperbolas, and ellipses.  This was a lot of information to review and a lot for  him to retain, but if he reviews the equations one more time on his own he should feel very comfortable with it.  He also had some questions in Chemistry at the end of our session which were about phase changes and energy transfer when an element (primarily water) undergoes a temperature and possibly phase change.  The student said that my quick explanation clarified any confusion he had.

Tutoring review by Jennifer in Cleveland, OH
Added two new chapters to the book about pigs, combining creativity with letter formation and spelling. Read first chapter of a long book, alternating sentences. Last 10 minutes were devoted to arithmetic as a reward for good performance. Student is showing increased ability to sit still as well as increased concentration; for example, he wrote the entire word "restaurant" without changing the subject.
