Session Summaries by Trigonometry Tutors

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Tiffany in Santa Barbara, CA
The session began with the student completing a math drill that required him to answer subtraction number expressions on flash cards with a 2 minute limit. We then went on to complete his math homework together. He had to count sets of ten and those left over to form a two digit number. He then had to match pictures with the correct numbers. The session ended with the student reading an informational passage and answering comprehension questions.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Lily in Santa Barbara, CA
The student and I started our session by reviewing her homework, which she did a good job on. The few errors made involved multiplication. I asked if she had reviewed her multiplication tables as assigned and she hadn't. I decided to give her a little break from integers/multiplication by looking at the Pythagorean theorem. She said that they hadn't gotten to it in school yet, so we went over the formula and then practiced solving for one side with a worksheet. Finally, I drilled her on her times tables so she could practice.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Nora in Santa Barbara, CA
The student's class was preparing for a summative evaluation in Math. There were a few points that she still found very confusing, with respect to different kinds of functions and the rules for them. In particular, she asked us to review how to determine whether a function is linear, exponential or quadratic and how to find the explicit and recursive rules for all types of functions. The shape and rules for linear functions fell into place for her quickly so we spent most of the session focused on quadratic equations which she found the most difficult: specifically determining the recursive rule for quadratic equations. We talked through the difference between explicit and recursive rules for functions and what the word recursive means. Once she understood the underlying concept, it became easier for her to work through the implementation.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Seneca in Santa Barbara, CA
The student worked on perimeter and area. She has a good sense for how to solve this type of problems. She should be ahead of the game a little bit as a result of the problems she worked on today. She picks up concepts quickly, and has very little trouble applying them.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Wyatt in Santa Barbara, CA
Today I worked with the student on factoring and adding rational expressions. We reviewed old tests and quizzes on the subject to prepare him for exams in the upcoming week. We spent a lot of time reviewing the basics on how to factor and how to multiply by variants of 1 to create rational expressions with common denominators.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Verne in Santa Barbara, CA
We went over the student's study guide for his final. We practiced problems on trig identities, solving trigonometric equations and finding secondary values. He was able to work well on his own but needed reminders on some topics which they covered earlier in the semester.
