Session Summaries by Trigonometry Tutors

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Tomás in Peabody, MA
The student is a curious case. He has trouble remembering the times tables but he is very smart and understands the conceptual side of math, which is often the part that students struggle with. Given a word problem he is quick to understand all of the relevant variables and knows how to proceed, but often makes mistakes carrying out operations. This is not a major issue, but he needs to be able to remember the times tables. After noticing that, we went over some tricks to carry out multiplications and divisions in a fast manner. His mother and I went over some websites that can be helpful for the student to visit in order to improve his calculation skills.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Lily in Peabody, MA
The student has a test in math tomorrow on decimals. We went over rounding to the nearest whole number, adding and subtracting with decimals, practiced with word problems, and finally reviewed the addition properties. She had a very solid grasp on all of this when we finished. Lastly, we went over dividing fractions. This isn't on her upcoming test, but she is still having some trouble with it. She sometimes forgets to flip the second fraction, so we drilled with several practice problems then called it a night.

The student and I worked on some science that he had to finish up and then we worked on math. He was working on ratios. He had no trouble with the basic problems, but did struggle a bit with the critical thinking problem. We walked through it together, and he was able to solve the problem. I let him know that he needed to bring home his social studies review tomorrow.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Orkhan in Peabody, MA
I had the student do her review sheet for a math test tomorrow. The topics included: systems of equations: substitution and elimination, graphing equations, graphing Inequalities and system of equations word problems. Originally, she got a substitution problem incorrect. I explained the rules, and had her do 4 more problems. It seemed like she was more comfortable with them.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Gregory in Peabody, MA
We spent our last session delving into the analytical geometry section of the student's textbook. The first half was spent practicing the concepts we just introduced at the end of our time on Monday around lines, and the second half was spent working with the general form of a parabola. It's a lot to take in at first, but he persevered for the full length of the session and really started to have it down by the end. Practice makes perfect!
