We covered arithmetic and geometric series! The student totally gets this stuff. I asked him to go back through all of his past tests to identify problem areas for us to focus on next week, so we'll have a plan on Wednesday!

We went over the student's trigonometry review sheet for his test on Wednesday. His review sheet was primarily covering trigonometric functions and relations. Yet it pertained to everything include converting from degrees to radians and vice versa, the unit circle, graphing trigonometric functions of sine and cosine and stating their characteristics of their graphs, and finally covered reference angles and special right triangles.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Jonathan in Canton, OH
In today's session, the student and I worked with transformations of functions. We covered all the types of transformations one can perform on functions (shifts, dilations, and reflections), and applied them to a set of parent functions (constant, identity, quadratic, and absolute value). This technique is used to determine a graph of a non-basic function or to determine an equation for a given graph. We spent most of the session discussing these ideas and working through the associated exercises in his book. We worked these concepts until he felt comfortable with the material and I was confident he could solve these types of problems in an exam situation. We then briefly went over graphing inequalities, which he has seen before, so he didn't have too many questions. We planned for our final review session before his next exam, and wrapped up an overall great session.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by John in Canton, OH
The student is studying introduction to logic and is currently covering Venn diagrams. We looked at problems that went from 2 directions: starting with an algebraic expression and ending in a diagram, or going in the opposite direction. I gave her pointers on which part to begin with when dealing with a complex expression (the part in parentheses), and some practical tips on doing diagrams, (different colors or modes of shading). She has a good attitude and should do well on this material on tests.
