I am an undergraduate student at the University of Houston looking to assist students in strengthening comprehension in subjects vital for college-entrance exams (specifically SAT and ACT). I focus on tutoring in writing and language skills, essay editing, and mathematic subjects. I aim to help students by simplifying subject lessons and emphasizing application of materials learned in order to help students achieve mastery in desired field.

I am a rising Junior computer science major, biochemistry minor at Carleton College. I remember how important asking for help was when I was studying for exams and would love to assist students going through the same process. Although I am knowledgeable in many subjects, I am most equipped tutoring in college and high school-level computer science, college and high school-level biology, and SAT prep. During high school, I tutored my classmates in preparation for the SAT, and have two years of experience tutoring college students in computer science courses. I learn best when I understand the practicality and relevance of the material, and hope to instill those concepts in my lessons.

My first tutoring experience was of small groups of dental and medical first years while I was obtaining my PhD in Physiology at the University of Puerto Rico. Since then I have taught a variety of Science classes (General Biology, Anatomy, Anatomy and Physiology) to larger groups at the college level. As a researcher I have also mentored students (ranging from high school to graduate students) in a laboratory setting where the interactions are one-on-one and structured to each individual. I have learned that these individual interactions are the best to ensure that the student is getting help specifically where (and when) they need it, and for me (the tutor) to identify where the difficulty lies. Also, these individual interactions allow for a more comfortable relationship between mentor and mentee (tutor and student), which in turn allow for a better understanding of the materials. Although I am capable of tutoring different STEM topics, I am a biologist at heart.I am a mother of 3 young kids and understand the hardships of remote learning. My background is multicultural, which makes me fluent in Spanish, English and French.

I am originally from Atlanta. I recently completed an MFA in Creative Writing at Chatham University. I speak French at the advanced intermediate level, and have traveled extensively across Europe. I feel I have a lot to offer as a tutor of writing and literature.

I am currently in my junior year at Union College. I will graduate with a B.S. in Biology in June of 2016, and plan to go to medical school after. My tutoring experience is quite varied. Back in high school I was the TA for a computer science course and a volunteer tutor in chemistry and biology. More recently, I have done more informal tutoring, such as helping friends at college with biochemistry and MCAT preparation, and helping my younger sister with note taking skills, AP US History, and ACT prep. I tutor a wide range of subjects, from computer science to history and biochemistry to critical reading. My favorite subjects to tutor though, are standardized test prep and biochemistry. Though enjoying standardized tests is not a common opinion, I have always liked the logical nature of standardized test questions, and the fact that simply by working on a few test taking skills students can see marked improvement. Biochemistry, while far from a simple field, is one of my favorite subjects. I find the chemical basis for how biological mechanisms work to be fascinating. Biomedical research is also a passion of mine; I have worked in a handful of labs since high school, from a critical care surgical lab studying treatments for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome to a study on managing diabetes. In my free time, I enjoy reading (especially nonfiction scientific or political books), playing tennis, listening to and playing music (I play piano), and the occasional Netflix marathon. I believe that no matter the subject, every student has the potential for success.

Since graduation, I have worked for U.S. Bank as an anti-money laundering investigator and tutored students both remotely and in person. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about mathematics, with considerable experience tutoring anything from pre-algebra to Calculus 1. I have also tutored for the ACT, covering time management and strategy as well as problem solving. I like to get to know my students, learning what drives them so I can better motivate them to succeed.

I have the Master of Arts degree from Pepperdine University. From my under- graduate college days on, I have taught ages from older elementary through older adults in one-on-one, class room, camp, auditorium and church settings. These presentations have also taken place during hosting a 21-day Israel, Jordan, Egypt and Greek Isles Tour and 7-day tour to Brazil. In addition to Brazil I instructed through a translator for 1 month of college in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and on various occasions in Mexico and the Navajo Reservation in the SW U.S.A.In summary, I have served in leadership roles with various non-profit boards where skills were developed in interpersonal communications.
