Session Summaries by Statistics Tutors

Statistics Tutoring review by Shiyun in Vacaville, CA
We covered mean, standard deviation, variance, and covariance, as well as all the statistical terms for sum and weighted sum of two variables. We also discussed some examples of binomial distributions. We worked through the problems together, step by step, using Excel and a calculator. He has a better understanding of the math terms after the session.

Statistics Tutoring review by Julian in Vacaville, CA
Today the student and I met mostly to go over a few problems and concepts he had trouble with in working through his homework, and in preparation for a quiz on the material he has this Friday. Most of the basic concepts (mean, median, mode, and standard deviation) he has down and can do calculations with, but he had some questions about quartiles and percentiles of data sets, and also discrete and continuous probability distributions. We worked through the problems, and he seemed satisfied that he could work similar problems on his quiz.

We covered histograms and stem-leaf plots and how to determine the shape of these plots. We also discussed distribution center (mean, median, mode) and distribution spread (range, and interquartile range). The student seems to have a solid understanding of the material we have covered thus far, and we will continue to work on her course module in the upcoming sessions.

Statistics Tutoring review by Jeff in Vacaville, CA
We spent the time going over normal probability calculations. This was the last topic we needed to study for the student's upcoming midterm. We also spent some time reviewing some concepts she wasn't feeling strong on, most notably probability AND, OR, and conditional probability problems. We also spent a small amount of time going over interpreting slope and intercept from a least squares regression line. She is ready for the mid-term. She expressed confidence in her ability to perform well on it. I believe she will do well.

Statistics Tutoring review by Kristy in Vacaville, CA
Today, I showed the student how to use a z table because they did not cover it in her class. We calculated z scores for data and found the proportion or area under the curve for specific x values. She had mastered it by the end of the session. We plan to meet twice this week.
