Statistics Tutoring review by Dylan in Thornton, CO
To wrap up his analysis course, the student's teacher had been teaching the class about limits and difference quotients, and gave them a small sample of difference quotient problems to complete for homework. After a short refresher, in which I showed him the connection between this concept and some of the ideas I explained to him when describing the purpose of calculus, he gave these problems a shot. He understood the topic conceptually and could apply the ideas accurately. To end the session, we found some word problems that involve the concept, which he completed with ease, and then I challenged him to make an inference about a few difference quotients he had computed that allowed him to (correctly) guess the power rule for derivatives.

The student completed her spelling and syllables exercise. We moved onto multiplication facts for a brief time and then moved over to the reduction of fractions as it seems to be used in helping the student's curriculum for learning division.

Statistics Tutoring review by Carolyn in Thornton, CO
In our first session, the student and I briefly reviewed some of his math exam material on graphing equations and related subjects. We then went over some note-taking and studying strategies, and I provided some examples of different ways to arrange the material in order to organize different concepts. In our second session, we worked through the multiple choice practice chemistry exam that was provided by his teacher. Again, we spoke about different ways to study using practice exams. The student took note of some of the areas he was less confident in and, therefore, where he should focus his studying.

The student is smart, prepared and a joy to work with. We went over three types of distributions and did problems. I came up with better examples, and we calculated binomial, Poisson, and hypergeometric probabilities and cumulative probabilities.
