Session Summaries by Statistics Tutors

Statistics Tutoring review by Daniel in Mountainview, CA
This is the last session for a period (until the student's classes resume at least). He had his advanced math final (mathematics proofs) which we spent some time preparing for. He saw a large amount of improvement since the start. We reviewed induction proofs first. He was fine with the general methodology of it. We talked about spending some time writing the problems out a little differently to help him see things in a new way, as well as discussing moving on and coming back to give him a chance at a new perspective. We then moved on to some work with sets, talking about proofs involving mapping between sets (bijective/surjective/injective functions and the resulting properties).

First we began by reviewing long division with a single digit divisor. Then we moved into double digit divisors. We also worked with word problems. Using the word problems, I had the student apply problem solving strategies. We also, briefly, discussed equivalent fractions and proportional reasoning.

There were some homework questions on this as well. We also briefly touched upon ordering fractions using the butterfly method.

Statistics Tutoring review by Samuel in Mountainview, CA
We did math problems dealing with transformations of parabolas, cubic equations and absolute-value equations. We also worked on problems dealing with parallel-line relationships. I showed the student a tool for calculating an unknown side of a right triangle. We worked on physics problems dealing with wave propagation and the Doppler Effect. He is starting to pick up on the principles involved with waves, I'll be sure to keep reviewing earlier principles as well so he does not lose that base of knowledge.
