Statistics Tutoring review by David in Lawrence, MA
We continued in chapter nine. We were able to setup large sample hypothesis tests and determine p-values and think about the area under the bell curve as a meaningful number. Only we don't really have a lot of real-world values to latch this onto so the real numbers and the synthesized ones blend together.

Statistics Tutoring review by Eve in Lawrence, MA
We went over the student's two homework assignments and discussed what a linear regression and ANOVA tells us about data, as well as other related concepts. I checked her data and output against the directions provided by her instructor and we chatted a bit about how to set up the statistical tests for her next assignment, which she will complete before our next session.

We worked on the student's Engineering project (robotic hand model). We had to redesign the tendons to be a greater distance from the joint/hinge center-line. I left her with a Statistics homework assignment to complete.

We went over Chapter 4 which covered probability concepts. I gave her 2 practice HW problems to do for next session. I have no concerns with this session whatsoever.

Statistics Tutoring review by Megan in Lawrence, MA
Today we worked on normal distribution probabilities, probability density functions, evaluating area under curves, and different types of probability distributions. The concepts were at first unfamiliar to the student, especially since she missed a class last week, but she seemed to catch up quickly. As usual, once shown a method for solving a problem, she had no problem applying it to later problems. She did especially well with evaluating area under curves given that the instructor had not introduced them to integrals, which the student picked up quickly in our session.

Statistics Tutoring review by Alexander in Lawrence, MA
Today we went over the basics of the empirical rule for normal curves. We talked about how to apply to rule in simple cases, as well as more complex cases in which the empirical rule is only part of the solution. This material was new to the student but she caught on quickly. We also reviewed the standard deviation and sample standard deviation. We went over a couple of practice problems, including some in which we then computed the z score for certain data points. She is doing well on the z score computations and interpretations. We also covered the sample correlation coefficient today. We talked about how to interpret what a correlation value means, as well as how to compute it.
