SSAT Tutoring review by Hillary in Sandy Springs, GA
Today, the student and I focused almost exclusively on math. We spent about 40 minutes total practicing reading passages and discussing the essay intermittently. We worked through some quantitative questions together and I gave him a worksheet I created to drill him in multiplication, fractions, and division.

SSAT Tutoring review by Kevin in Sandy Springs, GA
We spent a good amount of time reviewing the writing samples I had the girls write for me. The first student does not know how to write for standardized test prompts, and I gave her and her sister various tips and guidelines for writing on the SAT. The second student's writing sample was very impressive, and I had the first student look at her sister's for some guidance. Additionally, both girls seemed to struggle on measurements in math, and we spent around 30 minutes reviewing conversions in both standard and metric units.

SSAT Tutoring review by Molly in Sandy Springs, GA
This session, the student and I worked through the geometry review section in his book. He is familiar with many useful postulates which will really help him here. I showed him a few strategies, such as substituting to eliminate variables and composing equations based on known values, and he seemed to quickly grasp the skills. He is a good student and seems able to apply new knowledge fairly quickly. On the last few questions (typically the hardest), he took a bit more time, so I discussed entrance exam scoring with him and how to prioritize in the time given. We also discussed the essay, how it's graded, and how to structure a response. I asked him to outline for me what he would say for a couple of different prompts. He reads a lot and seems to have a good grasp of history for his age, which will really, really help him in this area. Next session I plan on having him write an essay so we can see where he needs work in terms of wording, style, grammar, and the like.

SSAT Tutoring review by Michael in Sandy Springs, GA
Last night, we got a lot covered in our first lesson. After talking with the student a bit about his interests and favorite/least favorite subjects, I told him all about the SAT test and the types of questions and grading. Then, we talked about when to guess on and when to omit questions. Then, we reviewed the chapter on synonyms and how to solve them using word tone and homonyms. He did very well after I taught him a few tricks, and we had plenty of time to practice utilizing it. Next time, we will continue this and perhaps start either math or critical reading.

We continued to work on the student's vocabulary. She completed the level 8 book in the series we are using. We went over the last sections and reviewed words from earlier sections. I also had her do some synonyms from another test prep book.
