What grade are they currently in?

Alfredo is a wonderful teacher. My 7 year old son is able to focus on the lesson for the full hour because Alfredo makes if fun to learn Spanish. The sessions are recorded so we can go back and review and also see how well they interact together. Alfredo is also very willing to work with our schedule which changes frequently and he always makes time for our son's lessons.

Session Summaries by Spanish Tutors

Spanish Tutoring review by Caroline in Orange County, CA
This was our first session so I'm just getting to know the student's learning style. He is covering percentages and has trouble with word problems. I don't think he really grasped the concepts of percents, but merely knew how to solve the formula. We worked on understanding why we use each equation and I made up new word problems for him to practice with. I think he has a better grasp of what's actually happening when he works each problem.

I met the student to go over SAT questions before his exam.  I read his well written essay, and we did hard math questions.  I also went over sentence completions and a good strategy to pre guess the answer before looking at the answers.  He also made a word list.  The student indicated he wants to meet again later this week.

The student and I worked on one-variable and two-variable standard error and margin of error calculations. She worked on several practice problems and by the end of the session felt comfortable doing the margin of error calculations and explaining what they meant in practical terms.

The student took a Science diagnostic test and we discussed strategies for dealing with this section. We looked at ways to break it down into manageable chunks. We went over some key grammar rules, based on her most recent practice test results. She is making flashcards from the information we covered in order to review leading up to the test. We discussed strategies for the reading section (emphasizing easiest passages first and process of elimination) and went over her answers to the humanities section in detail.

Spanish Tutoring review by James in Orange County, CA
The student had asked for more speaking practice, so I brought some flashcards with various questions/ speaking prompts that covered a range of topics, and focused primarily on the two past tenses (preterite and imperfecto). She understood every question and was able to answer all of them; although she was not able to speak at length, but rather she gave short answers. Next we moved on to the homework that had been assigned to her at school during the week. The class is reading a short mystery novel. First, we reviewed the homework she had already completed, a preview of the book. It was good, but not without some errors. She could not recall the word for man (hombre) and made a few simple spelling mistakes. We corrected the errors and then she moved on to the first chapter of the book. She read out loud, stopping after each paragraph to check for comprehension by translating. Her comprehension was very good, but her pronunciation needs work. I told her to re-read the chapter silently. She also has to write a summary of the chapter for homework. One suggestion for improving pronunciation is to read the chapter again out loud while recording her voice, and then listen to herself while trying to recognize her errors.
