What grade are they currently in?

Alfredo is a wonderful teacher. My 7 year old son is able to focus on the lesson for the full hour because Alfredo makes if fun to learn Spanish. The sessions are recorded so we can go back and review and also see how well they interact together. Alfredo is also very willing to work with our schedule which changes frequently and he always makes time for our son's lessons.

Dayton Spanish Tutoring FAQ

If you're looking for a qualified Dayton Spanish tutor, Varsity Tutors can get you connected. Maybe your school student needs a little extra support with their Spanish class. Perhaps you yourself are studying the language at the University of Dayton or Wright State University. You might be angling for a job and looking to beef up your resume, or planning a trip to Mexico and hoping to be able to better communicate with the locals. Whatever your reasons for wanting to improve your Spanish comprehension and speaking skills, working with a private instructor can be a smart choice.

What are the benefits of working with a Dayton Spanish tutor near me?

There are a number of advantages involved with learning from Dayton Spanish tutors. One of the most significant benefits is that you get the guidance of an expert on the language. Romance languages can be a little perplexing to those without prior exposure. One example of a facet that might seem strange, particularly to English speakers, is that all nouns are preceded by gendered articles. For instance, a garden - el jardin - is masculine, while a university - la universidad - is feminine. Whether a noun is feminine or masculine is largely determined by the noun's suffix, but these rules are not without exception and those rules require extensive study. Similarly, verb conjugation can be complex, relying on both gender and plurality to determine spelling. There are regular and irregular conjugation patterns to consider, though. About 95% of -ar and 69% of -ir verbs follow regular conjugation patterns, but only 28% and of -er verbs do. Add to this the fact that there five indicative simple tenses for each verb, and you've got a whole lot of studying ahead of you.

Given the scope of the challenge, having a Dayton Spanish tutor on your side can be helpful. They know the language backward and forward and can present the information that gradually builds your understanding. If a concept doesn't initially make sense, they can present it in a different fashion until it does. The one-on-one nature of your interactions allows them to answer your questions in real-time, deepening your comprehension and allowing for a personalized pace of instruction. This sort of individualized attention can be hard to come by in a conventional classroom.

Another benefit of Dayton Spanish tutoring is the ability to get support when it comes to verbalization. It's pretty hard to say you've learned a language if you can't understand it when spoken to or respond in kind. This might be one of the most challenging aspects of learning a language, though. Textbooks are written to teach the language in a grammatically correct fashion, but just as an English textbook doesn't capture the way English is actually used in high school hallways across America, the Spanish vocabulary flashcards and conjugation worksheets don't necessarily translate to conversational Spanish. There are nuances like colloquialisms, slang, and regional dialects that don't get captured on paper, and the pace used by an instructor trying to teach pronunciation at the front of a classroom is probably not the same as what you might encounter in a boardroom or the streets of Belize.

This is part of why working with Dayton Spanish tutors can be so helpful. Your online instructor, using the video chat function on the Live Learning Platform, can engage in conversation with you directly, helping to train your ear to the pace and inflection of actual dialogue. They'll be able to correct your pronunciation in real-time to help prevent bad habits from forming. Because you'll be able to record and store these sessions, you'll be able to go back and review them at your own convenience, practicing some of the lessons when it makes sense to do so. Your Dayton Spanish tutor can also send you lists of links to media using the doc sharing function that will give you even more opportunities to train your ear to keep pace with fast conversations and familiarize you with different types of accent distinctions. This can be really useful for students who have an oral exam coming up or are preparing for higher-level Spanish courses where instruction takes place almost entirely in Spanish. It can also be helpful for business people who are preparing to move to a Spanish-speaking country for work.

Another advantage of Dayton Spanish tutoring is that it can be customized to your learning preferences. Research has shown that when students receive instruction in a way that appeals to them, they're more likely to pay attention and retain the information being presented. Dayton Spanish tutors can take the time to get to know you and your preferences, and then build lesson plans around your likes and dislikes, making your time together more effective. For example, some students are more active learners, meaning they like to have information presented to them, and then process it by applying it directly over the course of an activity. Other students are more reflective and prefer to develop an understanding by thinking about it and contextualizing it. When it comes to language instruction and Dayton Spanish tutoring in particular, this might mean that the active learner is taught about -ar verb conjugation and then given ten different -ar verbs to conjugate to prove they understand the rules, while the reflective student might be taught about -ar, -ir, and -er verb conjugation, given one of each to conjugate, then asked to explain their work. The ability to customize instruction like this can make the lessons more effective, helping students get more out of their preparation time.

Spanish Tutoring review by Laura in Dayton, OH
In this class, the student and I reviewed his homework from last class. I assigned him an entire chapter of reading and activities and he successfully finished them. In addition to that, we were reviewing the preterito and imperfecto because he is struggling with those two verb tenses. As for homework, I assigned him to write an essay using both verb tenses. He also has to finish another chapter of the book I provided to him.

Spanish Tutoring review by Landon in Dayton, OH
Today went well with this student! First I introduced him to the imperfect tense and we reviewed the preterite tense. We then talked about the employment of both of these tenses in the past. After that, we worked on more vocabulary, specifically medical vocab, emergency vocab, and school vocabulary. He's improving greatly! I would encourage him to really work on pronunciation and getting the vowels down, but his abilities are very impressive at this point. I would also encourage him to study all of the verb conjugations we have covered thus far. Otherwise, looking forward to next time!

Spanish Tutoring review by Claudia in Dayton, OH
The student and I worked on learning the names of fruits, colors and numbers in Spanish. We did this through various play activities. The focus of this session was to gain her trust seeing it was our first time meeting. She and I had a positive session; she was very cooperative and receptive to my directions. Goals for next session are to incorporate more formal teaching strategies.

Spanish Tutoring review by Lizeth in Dayton, OH
We practiced the question "da_nde estaÁ ____" and the answers "aqua_, alla_, allaÁ, aha_" and the numbers from 40 to 90. I needed more time to practice the numbers with Student J but Student K memorized them really easily and we had enough time to practice more exercises with him. This time we had a divided class 30 minutes with Student K and 30 with Student J, so I could give them different types of exercises and examples according to their skills. It was a better class. I am going to send them more exercises so they can practice 10 minutes at least 4 days a week.
