How can a Science tutor help you?

Students in California will have to take the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), which is only one reason to place an emphasis on science literacy. The test, many future classes, and college entrance exams place high importance on scientific literacy. An experienced and skilled science tutor in Oxnard, CA, could teach your child how to best use their study time to plug any gaps in their understanding of science.

Aside from helping with the CAASP, your child needs to be well-versed in scientific concepts. Understanding how science allows us to understand the modern world, how it works, and what key concepts scientists use serves a student well in future education, on college entrance exams, and in many liberal arts courses. Helping your child become comfortable with physics, chemistry, biology, and general scientific thinking at any age is a good investment. If your high school student struggles with science, all of this is probably obvious. Getting help to overcome science anxiety and understand relevant terminology is imperative before taking the ACT or SAT as well.

Session Summaries by Science Tutors

Science Tutoring review by Khrishen in Oxnard, CA
In the current session with the student, we covered the carbonyl and the amine sections of the organic chemistry class syllabus. We specifically planned our review around a set of practice questions that were assigned for the final exams. The student has a significant understanding of the concepts and with a little bit of guidance was able to easily complete all the questions. In the next sessions, we will be finishing the amine chapter and also working on additional review material ahead of the exam.

Science Tutoring review by Jennifer in Oxnard, CA
The student needed some help with concepts from previous organic chem and general chem chapters. We talked about quantum mechanics as it pertains to practical implications for bonding a spectra. This included energy levels, electron probability densities, degenerate states, and spin. We also looked at the difference between isomers and resonance structures. For isomers, we did practice problems and built examples with a model kit in order to practice drawing 3D structures on paper. We also looked at flat alkene molecules, and how the stereochemistry was affected by isomers. I left her with additional problem sets for alkene and aromatic synthesis questions.
