Science Tutoring review by Ammar in Lakewood, CO
We again first started with limiting and excess reagent, and percent yield as well as with empirical and molecular formula. We then moved on to significant figure review, and the rules for multiplication and division. Good thing we also reviewed that, because she needed the refresher. Unfortunately, we barely had enough time to go over vapor pressure, osmotic pressure, boiling point elevation, and freezing point depression. Hopefully, she will be able to review them on her own as well.

Science Tutoring review by Sylvia in Lakewood, CO
The student took an Algebra exam that she did okay on. Her finals start today. Last night we covered Algebra and Chemistry. Her Chemistry exam is today and she is fully prepared for the exam. We went through each topic, to ensure that she knew how to explain what needed to be done, and show that she was able to correctly finish them. For the topics that she stumbled on, we reviewed the topic, and I gave her other problems to answer, related to the problems. Her Anatomy and Algebra exams are tomorrow, and we are meeting tonight, to fully review the topics, and make sure that she feels as comfortable with Algebra as she does with Anatomy.

The student and I worked on her review materials for the assessment test, on the topic of chemical bonding. She was stronger and more confident on this topic than the previous one (on chemical formulas and nomenclature).

Science Tutoring review by Travis in Lakewood, CO
We continued working on the chemistry review packet for the final next week. Most of the questions that we covered were on the various gas laws. The most difficult part of solving these problems is selecting the correct gas law, especially when the problems are in random order, as they will be on the test. We discussed using the combined gas law for most problems, while eliminating the variables that remain constant. She applies the formulas and solves them without difficulty. The hardest part will be memorizing the formulas again, and correctly choosing the one to solve for the unknown quantities. The other problems that were challenging were the stoichiometry problems that involved gas laws, as well as solution chemistry. It can be hard to determine how the moles of one quantity can be converted to molarity of another compound, involved in the reaction.

Science Tutoring review by Sara in Lakewood, CO
We covered equilibrium and ICE tables. This is a very abstract concept, and one of the more difficult ones for students to grasp. The student is going to read the chapter and do some of the practice problems before our next meeting, where we will review this material again.

Science Tutoring review by Andrew in Lakewood, CO
This week we continued the student's unit on electricity and electric currents, moving more specifically in the last few days to looking at electric circuits and their properties. The student is very familiar with the configuration of a circuit and is enthusiastic about engineering them. The student felt very good with his current vocabulary and was feeling more confident about how electric current and circuits function. Since he has a test in the subject next week we will spend more time in our next session reviewing this material, and going over additional concepts in electricity. As he understands more and more of these concepts, we will also look at his electric circuit kit at home and figure out the physics of what he's building!
