The student and I worked through three SAT reading comprehension passages and approximately 20 SAT math questions in our initial session. On the reading section, she did particularly well on the fictional prose passage, but she struggled more with the comparative social science and natural science passages, which we worked through at a paragraph level to ensure comprehension. We focused on questions related to author's argument, evidence, paragraph development, and character attitudes. On the math section, we focused on questions related to algebraic expressions, systems of equations, and geometry. Overall, I felt this was a good initial session.

The student completed another math section. She's much improved, scoring 50/58 questions, which would lead to a 100 point increase (from 600 to 700) on the math section alone. She still feels nervous about time management. Additionally, she's afraid she got lucky on many of the questions, so we'll continue to review various math topics and work on increasing her speed. I assigned her another practice section to do.

The student did exceptionally well in this session. She is clearly familiar with all of the math content of the test, and was only puzzled by the trickiest and most conceptually difficult questions. It has been a pleasure working with her, and I wish her good luck on the test and in her future work.

The student did very well today. We talked about her goal of applying to college and set a target score of 1300/1600 which I believe would help make her a very strong applicant. We went over some sample Reading questions from the SAT which she did very well on. She's a strong reader and I think that once she has a good grasp of what they're looking for on this portion of the test, she will do very well on it. Math was a little harder but she was pleasantly surprised that a lot of the questions made more sense to her than the way math is done in her high school. I asked her to do some research and practice on SAT graphing questions for next week because she was having a little bit of trouble with those, and it is a good section to try to master.

The student did well in our first session. We started off by doing a diagnostic SAT math test, and she struggled a little with the longer more complex problems. I think with practice, she will be able to improve on her exam in November. As soon as she understands something, she does well, so we just need to go over all the concepts she's forgotten. We started refreshing algebra and fractions, as well as linear functions.

The student did well in the Writing section I assigned for homework! I think he is going to be fine in that section, but I will keep up on those practices too, just to keep them fresh. During the session, we worked through a math section, and I can definitely see improvement in concept understanding. There are still some areas he has just never heard of, but that list is getting shorter after every session. He managed to work through more problems without my help than he has before, so I'm confident that he will not only do okay on the SAT but also in his Algebra class this school year.
