SAT Math Tutoring review by Joanna in San Rafael, CA
More important than anything else: you know how to do this. So push yourself. Push yourself on the math. Write down what you know from the equation. Do not do anything in your head. Make a formula. Write the words with math. "Is" is = , "difference between" is - . Do this, and you'll have a starting point. Then, push yourself. You know the math, you just need to plug it in. Get a good night's rest. Eat breakfast. Look over my cheat sheets, do the practice problems you can, and get pumped! You know how to do this work. You. Know. How. To. Do. This. So do it!

SAT Math Tutoring review by Koushik in San Rafael, CA
Today we reviewed the student's Critical Reading section that she did as homework. She did pretty well, she had trouble with some of the questions but she was able to understand her mistakes, or at least why the correct answer choice was a better answer, for most of the problems. We spent the rest of the time working on her essay writing. We first talked about organization and planning, which she absorbed quickly and applied well to the practice writing I had her do. For next week she'll be writing another essay and attempting to employ a bit more stylistic flair, as well as completing one SAT math section.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Jordan in San Rafael, CA
The student and I worked on the critical reading section and the essay together today. First we went over math problems she needed help with, then we dove into essay strategies. I graded a sample essay of hers; things that needed a quick and easy improvement included writing in the first person and writing with a varied and accurate vocabulary. I also advised her to draw from both real life events and personal experience in defending her arguments on the essay. We then went over narrative-based questions found on the critical reading section of the SAT. I shared with her my guide for how to most effectively tackle these particular sections, first reading the questions then reading the story, and looking out for answer choices with narrow and broad scope. I think she showed significant improvement in the grammar section, but hopefully I imparted a great deal of advice on all facets of the SAT. Her test is tomorrow and I wish her the best of luck.

The student and I discussed the essay he completed for this session and reviewed essay structuring. We also worked through approximately 40 SAT grammar questions and spent approximately 20 minutes reviewing test taking strategies and talking about handling test-taking anxiety. This was his final session before the SAT tomorrow.

Today we worked on the SAT writing section. The student did not seem to struggle much with the material. He had a good attitude towards tutoring. I had him read some of the sample essays and write one of his own for extra practice.

We spent half the session brainstorming an essay and also reading example essays that were given different scores (1-6) so that he could get a better idea of what it takes to receive a good score. Then, we moved on to math problems, covering concepts such as foiling and multiplying roots.
